Newsletter dated 18th March 2008
Dear Parents
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Letters have been be sent out detailing the Summer term attendance for Miss Clarke’s and Mrs Rizvi’s classes. I therefore thought it would be an appropriate opportunity to remind parents of the activities that are organised after school for the children.
MONDAY
Spanish Club - 3-3.45 pm - Mrs J Montgomery
01494 437374
Short Tennis - Half hour sessions - Beaconsfield School of Lawn Tennis - 01494 674744
TUESDAY
French – 3.10 – 4.10 pm – Mrs P Graham 01494 513135
FRIDAY
Art Club - Emily 01707 664590
Forms for Short Tennis, French and Art Club are available from outside the school office.
Other after school activities that have run from time to time during the school year include football, rugby and yoga, and details of these are circulated to the relevant year groups at those times. Mrs Henson has also organised a dance club on Thursdays, but will understandably be taking a rest from this next term.
FUTURE EVENTS
Firstly a reminder regarding our end of term Spring competition being held on the last day of term – Friday 4th April, when the children are invited to bring in a decorated hat or egg, or minature spring garden that they have made at home.
We will be holding a Maths Workshop for parents during the first week of the Summer term on Wednesday 23rd April at 2.15 pm. Further details will follow.
CLOTHING
During the holidays, please check that your child has plimsolls that fit, as in the Summer term, many PE sessions take place outside and these are essential for country dancing preparation and performance.
There are a few spare pairs in school for emergencies, however this takes adult time out of the sessions to find a suitable pair and we can only kit out smaller feet. PE equipment should be in school every day.
On our return, can you please ensure that the children still have some sort of coat or waterproof clothing in school with them every day as so often the weather is very changeable during the summer term.
All lost property items found around the school are collected in a box in the Medical room, which can be viewed by parents.
SCOOTER & BIKE RACK
I understand that several scooters that have been left overnight or over a week-end on the racks have gone missing in recent weeks. As the racks are visible from the pavement outside the school’s grounds, please can you ensure that all items are secured with padlocks and are taken home each evening. The school cannot be held liable for any items that might go missing.
FRUIT & VEGETABLE SCHEME
Many thanks to all the parents who have again helped distribute the items to the classrooms first thing in the mornings this term.
Whilst some of you may be happy to continue, others may need a rest, so we are now requesting help for the Summer term from Year 1 and Reception parents.
If you can give 15 minutes of your time at the beginning of a school day, please complete and return the slip below via your child’s class teacher, or tell Mrs Smith in the Office, even if you are willing to continue.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE REQUESTS
Please ensure that all requests for your child to be absent from school are submitted by completion of the Leave of Absence Form, which is obtainable from the office. This form should be sent in not less than one month from the date in question.
Any such request which accumulates to a pupil being away during an academic year for more than 10 school days will be recorded as an unofficial absence against that child’s name.
The school strongly urges parents to avoid booking holidays during the assessment period for Year 2, which takes place in May each year. I am providing this reminder as I know holidays are often booked well in advance.
MEDICINES IN SCHOOL
I would like to clarify the school’s position regarding the administration of medicines. The requisite consent forms, which are obtainable from the office, must be completed first by parents/guardians - we cannot give any medicines without these.
The medicine should not be given to the child to bring in, but handed into school by an adult to a member of staff, in the container/ package that it was dispensed in, with a label clearly showing the child’s name and correct dosage. These requirements apply to all medicines, including travel tablets prior to an educational visit.
Due to the large number of prescriptions for antibiotics, we are unable to administer these - we appreciate that the number of doses per day can vary but where it must be given during school time, parents are requested to make arrangements to come in themselves to give it.
Individual records are kept in school of the frequency and name of medication given to each child, and a slip advising parents of this is sent home on each occasion.
If you have any queries regarding this, please don’t hesitate to come into discuss it with me.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable holiday. Please remember that school finishes on the last day of term, Friday 4th April, at 2 pm. Years 1 & 2 return to school on Monday 21st April, whilst as previously advised, Reception classes will start back a day later on Tuesday 22nd April.
Yours sincerely
