Newsletter Dated 11th January 2008
Dear Parents
Welcome back for a new term at Tylers Green First School. I do hope that you all had an enjoyable and peaceful break and may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year. Please see overleaf for the calendar of events for this term.
THANK YOU
On behalf of all the staff, I would like to thank everyone for all their generous Christmas presents and cards. They were much appreciated.
START OF SCHOOL
At the beginning of a new year, I would like to remind everyone about pupils arriving punctually for school. The whistle is blown at 8.50 am and all pupils are expected to be in the playground by then. The playground gates are closed at 8.55 am to allow the Support staff on duty to return to their classrooms.
Any child arriving late needs to come through the main entrance and must be signed in by the adult bringing in that child in the pupils’ In/Out Book. Children’s names will be written in the Late Book and when names appear more than once, the circumstances of those children will be investigated. It is very important that teachers can start promptly in the morning and introductions to lessons are not disrupted by late arrivals.
REQUESTS
Do you have the odd woollen glove lying in the back of a cupboard or in a pocket of a coat, that you could donate to the Year 2 classes to use in their Design & Technology work this term? Adult ones would be particularly useful.
We are desperate for any old pants, socks and tights to cope with the odd accident that happens in school. Our stock has again become depleted as items worn home have not been returned.
Any donation of the above would be very much appreciated. Please bring to the Office.
WATER BOTTLES
All our Reception children have now been provided with a water bottle – additional bottles
are available at a cost of 25p – please send any such requests with the appropriate monies into your child’s class. In most cases, the child will be provided with a bottle that same day. For administrative reasons, the office cannot deal direct with cash payments.
OUTER CLOTHING
There are still children coming to school without the outer clothing appropriate for the time of year. Please do ensure that your child is suitably attired everyday with coat and gloves, and that all items are clearly named. Thank you.
ABSENCE
If your child is unwell, please inform us on the first day of absence, either by telephone or letter. If your child has been sick during the night, it is strongly advised that they be kept at home at least for the following day. As you may be aware from recent news reports, there is a particularly virulent bug circulating at present, and to avoid further spreading, official advice has been a longer stay at home.
FOOD ALLERGIES
I would like to remind you that there should certainly be no food in school that contains peanuts and as far as possible, no nut traces. We have a new pupil now who has an extreme nut allergy as well as other pupils who have similar food allergies. I would appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
HOLIDAYS
Requests for holidays should be made on the LEA’s Leave of Absence form (obtainable from Mrs Smith in the office) at least one month prior to the absence. Once completed, they should be returned to your child’s class teacher.
Taking your child out of school during term time can have a disruptive effect on his/her education, so requests should be kept to an absolute minimum. The Education Welfare Officer visits the school regularly to carry out checks on registers for persistent late comers and long absences.
Yours sincerely
