LETTER 1

Dear Parents,

We are writing to let you know about the plans we have for our new Foundation Stage Unit which will be replacing our current Reception Class organisation.  As  there is to be a new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum in operation from September 2008 we have decided to re-evaluate our current provision.

The main aim of this new organisation is to provide more effective Early Years provision. We will continue to have an Admission number of 60.  Rather than having 3 separate classes based on birth dates the 60 children will be split into 2 nominal mixed age groups of 30 for Registration purposes. The children will be grouped flexibly for different activities and will have opportunities to work with all the adults in the setting.

Two teachers will run the Unit with Support staff.

We will be refurbishing the current Reception classrooms to provide a more flexible learning area. Doorways will be knocked through on both sides of what is now Miss Clarke’s classroom and child- sized sinks will be incorporated into the current Shared Area.

Another advantage of this new organisation is that shared permanent Areas of Learning will be able to be set up within the FSU, both indoor and outdoor, e.g. big construction, sand and water areas, Problem Solving and Investigation and choice of Role Play - rather than staff having to rotate this provision in 3 separate classrooms as happens now.

The Outdoor Area, such a key part of the Foundation Stage Curriculum, will also be more available and children will have greater opportunities to move between the indoor and outdoor environment as recommended in the new EYFS policy documents.

We are also investigating the financial implications for having all pupils staying full time from the beginning of the Spring Term in order to maximise the benefit of this new organisation.

From September, with this new organisation we believe that our pupils will have full access to all aspects of the Foundation Stage curriculum with regular opportunities for both child-initiated and adult-led learning in both the indoor and outdoor environment. This will build on our current high standards of practice.

As these plans progress we will of course keep you informed and abreast of the details.

LETTER 2

Dear Reception Year Parents

Due to the refurbishment work that is being completed in the Reception Classes during the April/Spring Holiday Break, the classroom will not be clean and safe for the children on the first day of the Summer Term, i.e. Monday 21st April.

The governors have therefore asked for the necessary permission from the Local Authority to allow the school to be closed for the Reception pupils only on that day.

The school will re-open for Year 1 and 2 pupils as normal.

If any parent has particular problems with this day’s closure, please let me know.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A M Styles
Headteacher
