About Our School

Tylers Green First School is a community school for children aged four to seven years. The "village school" as it has always been known serves the villages of Penn, Tylers Green and surrounding areas and celebrated it's 125th birthday in the autumn of 2001.
There are 179 children on roll at present. Children are admitted on a part-time basis in the September following their fourth birthday. They become full time in the term after they reach the age of five. Currently the children are grouped into three Reception classes, two Year 1 classes and two Year 2 classes.
The children are taught in mixed ability classes. Experienced Learning Support Assistants support each reception class teacher. Three more TAs support Key Stage 1 teachers. The majority of children achieve very highly in end of Key Stage 1 tests. Following the results for 2000 the school received an Excellence Award from the DfES.
The school was invited to become a Beacon school from September 2001. The school met the standards for the "Investors in People" award scheme in February 2001 and this was successfully renewed in 2004. We are currently a pilot school for the 'Buckinghamshire Healthy school standard'.
In July 2004 the school was given a Highly Commended award from the Buckinghamshire Swan Award Scheme for the work done on developing the school playground and the Reception outdoor play area.
The school enjoys strong support from parents and has many links with the local community.
The school has introduced the use of 'Golden Rules' as the primary rule system for the School Behaviour Policy. These 'Golden Rules' remind children how to behave throughout the school day and hopefully outside school as well. Posters describing these rules are on display around the school and in every classroom.
